Introduction
The English language can sometimes be difficult to understand, because native English speakers unconsciously transform certain sounds in words. One way in which they do this is to pronounce a /t/ that hits an /r/ as a [tʃ] “ch”.
Example
We would not say
“I need to catch my train” [treyn]
and pronounce the /t/ before the /r/ as [t] (or else it sound would like “terrain”).
Instead, the /t/ transforms into a [tʃ] “ch” and we say “train” [tʃreyn].
Did you hear the [tʃ] “ch” at the beginning of the word?
“I need to catch my train” [tʃreyn]
Saying the /t/ as a [tʃ] “ch” prevents the speaker from being forced to roll their /r/, a common habit for Arabic, Spanish and other speakers.
